Cherry blossoms are nothing short of magical! Wherever they bloom, they spread joy and delight. It’s no surprise that spring becomes a peak tourist season in countries where these flowers flourish. Forecasts are drawn, their blooming dates are predicted, and festivals are planned around the blooms.

Cherry blossoms were on my bucket list for over 15 years, and 2025 was the year when I could finally make my dream visit come true. I decided to chase Korea Cherry Blossoms instead of Japan for many, many reasons, and I am so glad I did.

I got enchanted, fell in love and couldn’t stop photographing the Korea cherry blossoms. I spent 12 days in 4 cities (Seoul, Busan, Jinhae and Gyeongju) and got cherry blossoms in full bloom everywhere. Save this guide and itinerary so you don’t have to make one!

BEST PLACES TO SEE CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN SOUTH KOREA

Since this was my first trip to South Korea, I wanted to explore the main cities and popular destinations rather than go off the beaten path. The following are the four cities I visited between 29 March and 9 April 2025! Other cities equally good for cherry blossom viewing (but I couldn’t go) are Jeju, Incheon, Jeonju, Daegu, Chuncheon, etc.

Cherry Blossoms in Seoul

Seoul bursts into white and pink thanks to the cherry and apricot blossoms throughout the city. They can be seen across neighbourhoods, roads, coffee shops and gardens, making the locals and tourists fall in love with the trees. The city is home to several stunning locations to admire the blooms. Seoul cherry blossoms are an event in themselves, and chasing them all is an amazing activity!

Seokchon Lake

Seokchon Lake is one of the most popular spots to view the Korea cherry blossoms in Seoul. There are over 1,000 cherry blossom trees on the periphery of this lake. The lake’s scenic walking paths provide picturesque views, with the iconic Lotte World Tower and Magic Island amusement park serving as stunning backdrops.

Seoul Forest

Often referred to as the “Central Park” of Seoul, it offers a tranquil setting for cherry blossom enthusiasts. The Cherry Blossom Path, a scenic walkway lined with cherry trees forming a tunnel-like canopy, is a highlight of the park. Other notable spots include the Ginkgo Tree Forest and the Ecological Forest, providing diverse backdrops for visitors

Yeouido Park

Yeouido Park is one of the most iconic viewing spots for cherry blossoms in Seoul. Yeouido Park itself is divided into four sections: the Traditional Korean Forest, Grass Square, Culture Square, and Nature’s Ecosystem Forest. These diverse areas offer scenic walking paths and open spaces, perfect for strolls and picnics under the cherry blossoms.

Namsan Park

Located in the heart of Seoul, Namsan Park is renowned for its scenic cherry blossom trails. The path stretching from Namsan Public Library to N Seoul Tower is particularly popular, adorned with fully bloomed cherry blossoms that create a dreamy atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city from N Seoul Tower, making it a perfect spot for both nature lovers and photographers.

Gyeongbokgung Palace

This iconic palace looks magnificent on any day, but combine it with Korea cherry blossoms and it becomes a whole lot amazing! While Gyeongbokgung may have fewer cherry trees compared to other locations, the combination of historical significance and seasonal beauty makes it a must-visit during spring.

One of the most iconic spots within the palace is the Gyeonghoeru Pavilion, where cherry blossoms frame the structure, and their reflections shimmer on the surrounding pond. This serene setting is a favourite among photographers and visitors alike, capturing the essence of spring in Seoul.

Cherry Blossoms in Busan

I saw the floral burst everywhere in Busan. Honestly, I felt like I did not specifically have to go to a place to see cherry blossoms in Busan because, well, they were on all the city roads, in hotel compounds, cafes and parks. But if I have to mention a few good places for Korea cherry blossoms in Busan, then here they are.

Dalmaji Hill (Dalmaji-gil Road)

Near Haeundae Beach, Dalmaji Hill offers a scenic drive lined with cherry blossom trees. The area is also home to charming cafes and art galleries, making it a perfect spot for a stroll. 

Samnak Eco Park

Located along the Nakdonggang River, Samnak Eco Park is renowned for its expansive cherry blossom walkway. The park features over 3,000 cherry trees, creating a picturesque tunnel of blossoms. In 2025, the Nakdonggang River Garden Cherry Blossom Festival was held here from March 28 to 30, featuring photo zones, food markets, and street performances. 

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple

Situated on the northeastern coast of Busan in Gijang County, the temple is a remarkable site for cherry blossom viewing. Cherry blossoms adorn the temple grounds. Visitors can enjoy a serene walk along the 108-step staircase leading to the main sanctuary, all while surrounded by blooming cherry trees.

Cherry Blossoms in Gyeongju

Gyeongju, often referred to as the ‘museum without wall’ is has a total of 52 designated cultural assets that are registered as World Cultural Heritage. While there are beautiful heritage sites, Gyeongju transforms into a breathtaking landscape of pink and white blooms in spring. Here are some of the best spots to enjoy cherry blossoms in Gyeongju.

Bulguksa temple

The temple is situated on an elevation. Visitors can stroll along the pathways leading to the temple, where cherry trees create a picturesque canopy, enhancing the serene atmosphere of this historic site. At the end of March, it is the white cherry blossoms that bloom, while in mid-April, the pink plum blossoms bloom, ensuring that spring is an amazing time to visit here. 

Daereungwon Ancient Tombs & Stone Wall Walkway

This area offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty. The stone wall walkway adjacent to the royal tombs is adorned with cherry blossoms, providing a serene setting for a stroll. The combination of ancient tombs and blooming trees makes it a favourite spot for both locals and tourists.

Woljeonggyo Bridge

This reconstructed historical bridge is beautifully illuminated at night, and the surrounding cherry blossoms add to its charm. The area is perfect for evening walks and offers a romantic setting for visitors.

Hwangnyongwon

Hwang Nyong won is a corporate training centre for moral culture and education of awareness, and well well-known landmark in the city of Gyeongju. But the cherry blossom trees around the landmark have made it extremely popular as a photo spot.

Cherry Blossoms in Jinhae

Jinhae is one of the most popular Korea cherry blossom spots! So much so that Jinhae is nicknamed ‘cherry blossom city’ in Korea. The city has planted over 300,000 cherry trees, making it a must-visit destination in spring for locals and tourists alike. These 2 places steal the limelight and also host the cherry blossom festival in Jinhae.

Yeojwacheon Stream

Yeojwacheon Stream in Jinhae is one of South Korea’s most iconic cherry blossom destinations, especially during the annual Jinhae Gunhangje Festival held each spring. The stream is lined with thousands of cherry trees, creating a picturesque pink tunnel that attracts visitors from around the world. A standout feature of this area is the “Romance Bridge,” made famous by the 2002 MBC drama Romance. Since its appearance on the show, the bridge has become a popular photo spot, especially for couples and fans of Korean dramas. There is also a ‘propose spot’ on the bridge where a couple can propose to each other.

Gyeonghwa Station

An actual train station that stopped running trains in 2006 is now a cherry blossom viewing spot with trees lined on both sides of the train track. There is one train that is stopped there during the cherry blossom festival, and it serves as a perfect prop for Instagram photos. 

MUST VISIT CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVALS IN SOUTH KOREA

South Korea embraces spring with unmatched enthusiasm! Locals dive into vibrant festivals, enjoy traditional tea ceremonies beneath the cherry blossoms, and indulge in sakura-inspired treats that turn the season into a true sensory delight. 

While each city has its theme and customised way of celebrating Cherry Blossoms in South Korea, the general festival has food stalls, photo booths, cultural performances and shopping streets. 

Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Festival

As the former capital of the ancient Silla Dynasty, Gyeongju offers a uniquely atmospheric setting for cherry blossom viewing, where history, culture, and natural beauty come together in perfect harmony. During spring, this “museum without walls” transforms into a breathtaking landscape as cherry blossoms blanket its historic landmarks and streets.

The Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates more than just the blossoms. It weaves together the city’s rich heritage with seasonal beauty, offering visitors the chance to enjoy traditional Korean music and dance performances, cultural exhibitions, and local food stalls. A highlight of the festival is the scenic cherry blossom walk around Bomun Lake, where pink petals reflect on the calm waters and frame views of pavilions and walking trails.

Seokchon Lake Cherry Blossom Festival, Seoul

Seokchon Lake in Seoul is a premier destination for cherry blossom viewing, especially during the annual Seokchon Lake Cherry Blossom Festival. 

During the festival, more than 1,000 cherry blossom trees adorn the 2.5-kilometre path that circles Seokchon Lake, forming a stunning canopy of pink and white blooms. The lake’s East and West sections are linked by a figure-eight walking trail, perfect for a relaxed stroll beneath the blossoms. The scenic charm is enhanced by the striking backdrop of Lotte World Tower and Magic Island, blending nature with a touch of modern elegance.

The event also showcases a vibrant mix of cultural experiences, including live music, traditional Korean performances, art exhibits, and hands-on activities. Designated photo zones help capture the beauty of the moment, while evening light displays transform the lake into a glowing wonderland.

Seoul Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival

The main attraction is Yeouiseo-ro, a picturesque street behind the National Assembly Building, lined with over 1,800 cherry blossom trees. During the festival, this area is adorned with themed gardens, art installations, food stalls, and live performances, creating a festive atmosphere for visitors. 

Located on the banks of the Han River, the festival draws a massive crowd to enjoy soaking in the spring vibes. 

Daegu E-world Blossom Picnic

The Daegu E-World Blossom Picnic is a vibrant spring celebration held at the E-World Theme Park, one of Daegu’s most popular attractions. During cherry blossom season, the park transforms into a floral wonderland, with thousands of cherry trees in full bloom, creating a colourful and lively atmosphere that enchants visitors of all ages.

By day, visitors can stroll beneath soft pink blossoms, take photos in specially decorated floral zones, and relax on grassy picnic spots scattered throughout the park. As the sun sets, E-World truly comes alive with dazzling light displays and illuminated cherry trees, adding a layer of romance and fantasy to the evening.

In addition to blossom viewing, guests can enjoy a wide variety of theme park rides, including roller coasters, a giant Ferris wheel, and Daegu Tower, which offers panoramic views of the city and cherry blossom canopy from above.

Hwagae Cherry Blossom Festival

Nestled in the scenic foothills of Jirisan Mountain, the Hwagae Cherry Blossom Festival is one of South Korea’s most romantic and picturesque spring events. Held near the charming Hwagae Traditional Market in Hadong County, this festival is best known for its breathtaking 6-kilometre cherry blossom tunnel, famously called the “Wedding Road” or “Marriage Road.”

According to local legend, couples who walk this road hand-in-hand will stay in love and enjoy a happy, lifelong relationship, making it a popular destination for lovers and newlyweds.

Beyond its romantic appeal, the festival offers a wide variety of experiences. Visitors can browse local specialities at Hwagae Market, enjoy traditional Korean music and dance performances, sample regional street food, and take in the peaceful views of the Seomjin River and nearby mountain ranges.

Jinhae Gunhangje Festival

This is the largest cherry blossom festival in South Korea. No wonder it is visited by locals as well as Koreans from other cities. Located close to Busan, it is possible to have a one-day trip.

With over 300,000 cherry blossom trees in Jinhae, the city comes alive with parades, fireworks, food stalls and street performances. Themed desserts and knick-knacks are quite popular here.

PRACTICAL TIPS FOR CHASING KOREA CHERRY BLOSSOMS

Best months to view the cherry blossoms in South Korea

Unlike Taiwan whose where cherry blossoms start blooming around January end, in South Korea, it starts only around mid-March. The blooms are earlier in southern areas like Jeju, while in the north, like Seoul and Incheon, they bloom last. So, depending on which places you want to visit, you need to plan your trip accordingly. If you are covering the entire country, start from the south in mid-march and work your way to the north by mid-April to get the best cherry blossoms in the entire country!

Another thing to note is that once the cherry blossoms bloom, they last for about 10-15 days before the petals start falling. Unpredictable weather is another factor that does not guarantee blooms. On 29 March 2025, Seoul experienced small bouts of snowfall, delaying the bloom by a week. But I got snow in spring, and I couldn’t be happier!

While planning the trip, have a look at the previous year blooming dates and book accordingly. There is a difference of a couple of days in blooming (maximum a week), and in most cases, they can be chased in one location or the other.

Korea cherry blossom forecast

The forecast is released 6-8 weeks in advance on the official website. But of course, visitors can’t wait for such a last moment for booking! So here’s a map guide to help. 

This was my itinerary for March-April 2025, and I got cherry blossoms everywhere!

29-30 March: Seoul (bloom had started, but snow delayed it by a few days)

31 March – 01 April: Gyeongju (full blooms)

02 – 04 April: Busan and Jinhae (full blooms)

04 – 09 April: Seoul (full blooms)

Temperature in South Korea in spring

The temperatures are highly unpredictable. And while it’s spring, the temperatures still hover around 7-8 °C. On my trip, the temperature in Seoul was between -1°C and 4°C, and it even snowed for 2 days! However, other cities were pleasant. 

Average temperature in March: 3°C – 10°C

Average temperature in April: 9°C – 18°C

Outfits to pack for cherry blossom viewing in South Korea?

While you may see photoshoots with floral outfits on Instagram, honestly, it was too cold for me to remove my layers! And those who wear fancy (thin layered) outfits, I don’t know how they do it.

In my 12 days in South Korea, all the cities were chilly. The maximum temperature was 14°C, that too, on the last day. So if you’re someone like me, who easily gets cold, layer up. The wind chill will always be there, so wear warmer clothes and stockings and then a dress. Top it up with a jacket, which is easily removable for a quick photo.

Rain is infrequent but can occur, so pack an umbrella, just in case. In my 12 days, it rained on only one day, but it rained all day. 

Where to stay during cherry blossom season in Korea?

While it’s not essential, especially since most cherry blossom festivals last only a few days, if you’re someone who dreams of enjoying the blooms right from your window, here are some hotel recommendations that offer beautiful cherry blossom views from the room.

In Seoul, it is ideal to stay in tourist-friendly areas such as Hongdae, Gangnam and Myeongdong. All these areas are centrally located, have many touristy things to do, shopping areas, and English-speaking staff. My suggestion for hotels in Seoul Myeongdong is voco Seoul Myeongdong.

Since cafes in South Korea are a tourist attraction in themselves, it is a must to visit them during cherry blossom season. Most of these cafes come up with a spring special menu overlooking the blooms, making it a crowd puller.

Cafe Dasique, Seoul

One of the most Instagram-worthy cafes in Seoul, this charming spot becomes especially magical during spring with its cherry blossom-themed décor and seasonal menu. The interior is thoughtfully designed to evoke the feeling of a serene spring day, filled with soft pastel tones, floral installations, and cosy seating areas perfect for both relaxing and capturing the perfect photo.
