<p><strong><em>This guide to the best things to do in Liberec will take you around one of the Czech Republic’s best-kept secrets.</em></strong></p>

<span id="more-7968"></span>

<p>Most travellers rush from <a href="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/3-days-in-prague-itinerary/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Prague</a> to <a href="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/things-to-do-in-cesky-krumlov/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cesky Krumlov</a> or Karlovy Vary, leaving Liberec quietly tucked away in the north of Czechia. But spend a day or two here, and you&#8217;ll discover a city where futuristic architecture meets fairy-tale town squares, mountain adventures begin within minutes of the city centre, and science museums stand alongside centuries-old botanical gardens.</p>

<p>Liberec city can also be visited on a one day trip from Prague.</p>

<p>No matter how many days you spend in Liberec, here are all the amazing things to do in Liberec.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THINGS TO DO IN LIBEREC</h2>

<p>It may be confusing so lets get this straight &#8211; Liberec is a region. And the capital city of this region is called Liberec City.</p>

<p>So the following list is from Liberec region which has various fascinating places to visit including mountain and mountain trails, museums, TV tower, valleys and castles.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Admire the magnificent Liberec Town Hall</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Town-Hall-1024x768.jpg" alt="Liberec Town Hall" class="wp-image-7975" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Town-Hall-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Town-Hall-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Town-Hall-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Town-Hall-585x439.jpg 585w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Town-Hall.jpg 1032w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Liberec Town Hall</figcaption></figure>

<p>Rising above Dr. Edvard Beneš Square, Liberec&#8217;s Town Hall is impossible to miss. Completed in 1893, this Neo-Renaissance landmark is considered one of the finest civic buildings in Czechia, with its soaring central tower, ornate stonework and richly decorated façade instantly drawing comparisons to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_City_Hall" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vienna&#8217;s City Hall</a>. </p>

<p>The exterior alone is impressive, but step inside and you&#8217;ll discover elegant ceremonial halls adorned with stained-glass windows, carved woodwork and period detailing that reflect the city&#8217;s prosperous textile era.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="901" height="676" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Glass-paintings-inside-Liberec-Town-Hall.jpg" alt="Glass paintings inside Liberec Town Hall" class="wp-image-7974" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Glass-paintings-inside-Liberec-Town-Hall.jpg 901w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Glass-paintings-inside-Liberec-Town-Hall-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Glass-paintings-inside-Liberec-Town-Hall-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Glass-paintings-inside-Liberec-Town-Hall-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 901px) 100vw, 901px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Glass paintings inside Liberec Town Hall</figcaption></figure>

<p>If you&#8217;re up for a climb, ascend the 187 steps to the tower&#8217;s viewing gallery for sweeping views across Liberec&#8217;s colourful rooftops, with the Ještěd mountain rising in the distance. Guided tours run on select days, so it&#8217;s worth checking the schedule before your visit on the <a href="https://www.liberec-region.com/dr-en/826-town-hall-liberec.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">official website</a>.</p>

<p>Even if you don&#8217;t venture inside, spend some time exploring the City Square. Framed by pastel-coloured historic buildings, lively cafés and the elegant Neptune Fountain, it&#8217;s the perfect place to pause and soak in Liberec&#8217;s atmosphere.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Wander around the Old Town</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="912" height="684" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Old-Town.jpg" alt="Liberec Old Town" class="wp-image-7973" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Old-Town.jpg 912w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Old-Town-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Old-Town-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Liberec-Old-Town-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 912px) 100vw, 912px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Wander the Liberec Old Town | Things to do in Liberec</figcaption></figure>

<p>The historic centre of Liberec is small enough to walk around on foot.</p>

<p>Pastel-colored buildings, Art Nouveau facades, pavement cafes and secret courtyards create an ideal atmosphere for a nice walk. Unlike Prague, the area is not crowded with visitors which gives a chance to look at the architecture slowly.</p>

<p>Keep an eye out for the Hotel Praha, one of the best Art Nouveau examples in the city, and visit the local shops for Czech glass and regional crafts.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Spend a few hours at the Botanical Garden</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="640" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Botanical-Garden_Things-to-do-in-Liberec.jpg" alt="Botanical Garden_Things to do in Liberec" class="wp-image-7986" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Botanical-Garden_Things-to-do-in-Liberec.jpg 960w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Botanical-Garden_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Botanical-Garden_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Botanical-Garden_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-585x390.jpg 585w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Botanical-Garden_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Botanical Garden_Things to do in Liberec</figcaption></figure>

<p>If you love green spaces, head to the Botanical Garden in Liberec, which is the oldest and one of the most impressive in the Czech Republic.</p>

<p>Within its state-of-the-art glasshouses you’ll wander through tropical rainforests, desert landscapes, carnivorous plants, orchids and even giant waterlilies. It’s a surprisingly large collection for a city of this size and is one of Liberec’s hidden gems.</p>

<p>It’s especially lovely if you’re visiting in the cooler months, when the warm conservatories provide a welcome escape.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Visit the oldest zoo in the country</h3>

<p>Not a typical tourist spot but it is interesting because Liberec Zoo is the oldest zoo in former Czechoslovakia, dating back to 1904.</p>

<p>The zoo has more than 170 species and places great emphasis on conservation and breeding programmes. Depending on the season, you may see red pandas, snow leopards, birds of prey and endangered species from across the world.</p>

<p>Because of its hillside location, it is also one of the most picturesque zoos in the country.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Rediscover your curiosity at iQLANDIA</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="578" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/IQLandia_Places-to-visit-in-Liberec.jpg" alt="IQLandia_Places to visit in Liberec" class="wp-image-7985" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/IQLandia_Places-to-visit-in-Liberec.jpg 960w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/IQLandia_Places-to-visit-in-Liberec-300x181.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/IQLandia_Places-to-visit-in-Liberec-768x462.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/IQLandia_Places-to-visit-in-Liberec-585x352.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">IQLandia_Places to visit in Liberec</figcaption></figure>

<p>Travelling with children or simply curious adults?</p>

<p>iQLANDIA is one of the Czech Republic&#8217;s best interactive science and entertainment centres. It offers over 400 interactive exhibits that let you explore the beauty and mysteries of space.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Cosmo exhibition lets you explore the beauty and mysteries of space while you will go against the destructive forces of nature in the Elements Museum.</p>

<p>After passing through the star gate in the Geo exhibition you’ll explore the blue planet while in the GeoLab reveals what lies hidden beneath the earth’s surface.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from these there are many smart entertainment options including the iQPlaneterium ensuring that you will have a good time here.</p>

</div>

<p>If you&#8217;re interested in Liberec&#8217;s industrial past, don&#8217;t miss the North Bohemian Museum.</p>

<p>Its collections showcase the region&#8217;s famous glassmaking traditions, textiles, jewellery, historical weapons and decorative arts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The museum building itself is worth admiring, with its striking Neo-Renaissance architecture and elegant interiors. Probably the most striking of all of the museum’s exhibits is the world’s longest glass ladder. This 26-meter ladder that looks as though it’s made of stainless steel is entirely made of glass and it adorns the museum’s tower.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the top of the ladder is the best view of Liberec city and the surrounding mountains.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Get awed at Museum of Fine Arts Liberec</h3>

</div>
</div>

<p>Welcome to the bathhouse, said my guide when I stepped into the gallery.</p>

<p>Confused, the guide informed us that the gallery, located in a beautifully restored Neo-Renaissance bathhouse from 1902. The old public baths have been converted into a modern gallery, with the old swimming pool as a dramatic exhibition space. This makes it one of Liberec&#8217;s most unique cultural attractions and a must visit in Liberec.</p>

<p>The Museum of Fine Arts Liberec, better known as Galerie Lázně, is the city&#8217;s premier art destination and is as impressive for its architecture as for its collection.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The gallery hosts more than 22,000 works from six centuries, including Czech, Dutch, German and French art, plus rotating contemporary shows.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Have a roaring time at DinoPark</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="540" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/DinoPark-Liberec.jpg" alt="DinoPark Liberec" class="wp-image-7984" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/DinoPark-Liberec.jpg 960w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/DinoPark-Liberec-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/DinoPark-Liberec-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/DinoPark-Liberec-585x329.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">DinoPark Liberec</figcaption></figure>

<p>Dinosaurs have taken over three floors of the Plaza Liberec shopping mall in Liberec.</p>

<p>DinoPark is a fun surprise for families and dinosaur fans, tucked away on the upper floors of Plaza Liberec shopping centre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The fun starts with a walk through the time tunnel where visitors can witness the birth and development of the Earth and the universe.</p>

<p>Life-sized dinosaur models, moving exhibits, sound effects and interactive displays bring the prehistoric world to life, while educational exhibits keep the younger visitors entertained as they learn about the giants that once roamed the Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dinosaurs roar out from all corners, with some of them looking down on you from above and although the DinoPark Liberec is indoors, it still rains regularly there!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Centrum Babylon</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="640" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Centrum-Babylon-Liberec.jpg" alt="Centrum Babylon, Liberec" class="wp-image-7983" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Centrum-Babylon-Liberec.jpg 960w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Centrum-Babylon-Liberec-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Centrum-Babylon-Liberec-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Centrum-Babylon-Liberec-585x390.jpg 585w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Centrum-Babylon-Liberec-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Centrum Babylon, Liberec</figcaption></figure>

<p>They call Babylon a fun factory as it is literally packed with enjoyment from the entire family of all ages.</p>

<p>At the Aquapark you can immerse yourself in an aquatic kingdom with fairy-tale decorations, aquariums, caves and themed laser shows several times a day.</p>

<p>For the kids, the Lunapark offers attractions in the style of an old Bohemian fair and the Funpark will test their agility, playfulness and wits.</p>

<p>The 4D cinema will get your blood adrenaline level soaring and the Labyrinth will test your patience.</p>

<p>If none of this attracts you then perhaps getting a luxurious spa at the wellness centre will lift your spirits.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Walk through the historic Waldstein Houses</h3>

<p>Some of the oldest preserved buildings in Liberec are these timber-framed houses.</p>

<p>They were first built for the textile workers in the 17th century, and offer a fascinating insight into everyday life long before the grand Town Hall and Art Nouveau buildings transformed the city.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Take a hiking trip to Jizera Mountains</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="832" height="624" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Marian-Viewpoint-–-View-of-Hruba-Skala-Castle-loop-from-Karlovice.jpg" alt="Marian Viewpoint – View of Hrubá Skála Castle loop from Karlovice" class="wp-image-7982" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Marian-Viewpoint-–-View-of-Hruba-Skala-Castle-loop-from-Karlovice.jpg 832w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Marian-Viewpoint-–-View-of-Hruba-Skala-Castle-loop-from-Karlovice-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Marian-Viewpoint-–-View-of-Hruba-Skala-Castle-loop-from-Karlovice-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Marian-Viewpoint-–-View-of-Hruba-Skala-Castle-loop-from-Karlovice-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 832px) 100vw, 832px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Marian Viewpoint – View of Hrubá Skála Castle loop from Karlovice</figcaption></figure>

<p>The <a href="https://www.visitczechia.com/en-us/things-to-do/places/winter-sports/winter-adrenaline-activities/s-jizerske-mountains-winter-tips" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jizera Mountains</a> are one of the oldest protected landscape areas that feature numerous peat bogs, rock formations, waterfalls, rocky valleys and beech forests.</p>

<p>There are ample cycle bike trails, hiking trails and cross-country ski trails making this a favourite outdoor area in North Bohemia in all seasons.</p>

<p>I had the chance to go on a short hiking trail until Mariánská vyhlídka viewpoint. Located in Hruboskalské skalní město offers stunning views of Ještěd, Trosky, Kozákov and other surrounding landmarks.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Explore Crystal Valley</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="912" height="684" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Pacinek-Glass-Workshop.jpg" alt="Pacinek Glass Workshop" class="wp-image-7972" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Pacinek-Glass-Workshop.jpg 912w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Pacinek-Glass-Workshop-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Pacinek-Glass-Workshop-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Pacinek-Glass-Workshop-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 912px) 100vw, 912px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Pacinek Glass Workshop</figcaption></figure>

<p>Crystal Valley isn&#8217;t a single destination but a fascinating region where centuries-old traditions of glassmaking, jewellery-making and craftsmanship continue to thrive. Stretching across North Bohemia, it connects charming towns, family-run workshops, museums and factories, each offering a glimpse into the artistry that has shaped the region for generations.</p>

<p>What I loved most was that this wasn&#8217;t a place where craftsmanship sat quietly behind glass displays. I watched artisans transform molten glass into delicate works of art, learnt about the precision behind crystal cutting, and discovered how techniques passed down through generations continue to evolve with contemporary design.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I visited the <a href="https://www.pacinekglass.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pacinek Glass</a> workshop and loved my guided tour here.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Ride the cable car (or hike) to Ještěd</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="557" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Visit-Jested_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-Region-1024x557.jpg" alt="Visit Jested_Things to do in Liberec Region" class="wp-image-7981" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Visit-Jested_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-Region-1024x557.jpg 1024w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Visit-Jested_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-Region-300x163.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Visit-Jested_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-Region-768x418.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Visit-Jested_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-Region-585x318.jpg 585w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Visit-Jested_Things-to-do-in-Liberec-Region.jpg 1029w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Visit Jested_Things to do in Liberec Region | PC: Czechia Tourism</figcaption></figure>

<p>One of the most popular things to do in Liberec is to visit Ještěd. Rising 1,012 metres above sea level, the mountain dominates the city&#8217;s skyline and is crowned by one of the Czech Republic&#8217;s most recognisable buildings &#8211; a futuristic cone-shaped tower that functions as a hotel, television transmitter and observation deck.</p>

<p>The structure looks almost like a spaceship perched on the summit and has become an icon of Czech modern architecture. On a clear day, the views stretch across the Jizera Mountains, the Giant Mountains and even into neighbouring Germany and Poland.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re feeling active, hike up through forest trails. Otherwise, take the cable car or drive to the top before settling into the restaurant for lunch with panoramic views.</p>

<p>There is a small group tour option from Prague at <a href="https://getyourguide.stay22.com/explorewithecokats/n2YOK0C-cb" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Get Your Guide</a>.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Enjoy North Bohemian Cuisine</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="912" height="684" src="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Pasta-and-beer_My-veg-lunch.jpg" alt="Pasta and beer_My veg lunch" class="wp-image-7922" srcset="https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Pasta-and-beer_My-veg-lunch.jpg 912w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Pasta-and-beer_My-veg-lunch-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Pasta-and-beer_My-veg-lunch-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.explorewithecokats.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Pasta-and-beer_My-veg-lunch-585x439.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 912px) 100vw, 912px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Pasta and beer_My veg lunch</figcaption></figure>

<p>If you are a meat lover, you are in for a treat because there are so many options here!</p>

<p>I noticed that local menus are filled with comforting Czech classics such as <strong>svíčková</strong> (marinated sirloin in a creamy vegetable sauce with dumplings) and <strong>smažený sýr</strong>, the country&#8217;s much-loved fried cheese.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But if you are a vegetarian like me, fret not becauseI was happy to find restaurants offering plenty of delicious vegetarian choices, while also catering well to vegan and non-vegetarian diners.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I enjoyed a relaxed meal at <strong>Pivovarská restaurace Svijany Liberec</strong>, where hearty Czech flavours, warm hospitality and freshly brewed Svijany beer came together for a memorable dining experience.</p>
