Business travellers, professional executives on work trips and content creators move through airports, hotel lobbies, and overseas offices with tight agendas still have deliverables. Each trip outside demands tools that keep them connected without extra effort. Having the best travel eSIM is a saviour in such a scenario.

Mobile access plays a central part in this pace because vital files, business plans, work schedules, and team updates depend on a stable link. Any break in service can interrupt planning and create needless friction during packed work trips.

On my recent trips to UAE, South Korea and Uzbekistan, I have relied on a steady tool that has helped me adapt across borders into new region without delays – eSIM for travellers! ESIM delivers a simple and flexible setup that fits the fast pace of global trips, and it offers a smoother path through each country without heavy preparation. This lets travellers handle their workload without losing momentum while moving between regions. Following are some of the reasons to shift to ESIMs during travel.

Best esim for travel

eSIM FOR TRAVELLERS – WHAT, WHY AND HOW

Reliable connectivity

Travellers whether business or for content, depend on consistent mobile access to handle messages, approvals, and last-minute changes before entering meeting rooms or posting content on social media. A reliable eSIM for travellers ensures uninterrupted connection as soon as the flight lands. This helps the travellers stay aligned with quick shifts in plans while keeping the schedule in order.

The ease of automatic activation supports travllers who do not have time for local store visits. The device links to a local network without extra steps, which is perfect after a long haul flight. This helps create a natural flow during heavy travel cycles.

Smooth transitions across regions

A single trip sometimes include several borders. And eSIM for travellers that support fast movement from one country to the next without delays matters the most. A digital profile that adjusts to each new market brings a sense of steadiness to a packed schedule.

This adaptability keeps communication clear through each stop. There is no pause for hardware changes or unclear instructions. Executives move on with their work while the device handles the rest.

Esims for travellers

Secure handling

Business travellers exchange confidential reports and private messages across departments. Protecting these materials is part of their daily routine. A secure mobile connection supports that responsibility and keeps sensitive details away from unprotected networks.

A digital profile helps limit exposure to risky hotspots because the device connects through trusted mobile systems. This supports a safe flow of documents during important trips.

Cost stability

Travel budgets operate more smoothly when charges stay predictable. Traditional roaming plans can create uncertain costs that affect planning. A digital setup designed for movement across several countries helps keep charges steady.

This clarity helps travellers avoid unpleasant surprises during trips. The office finance teams also appreciates a pattern they can track without guesswork.

Simple Setup

No matter the kind of travellers, every one needs tools that simplify their load. A digital setup installed through a quick scan or QR code gives them a quick and clean start. There is no need to handle a physical card or deal with hardware parts.

This fits the lifestyle of frequent travelers who receive sudden travel plans. They can prepare their device within minutes and shift their attention to the work ahead. This convenience adds value to their entire travel routine.

Esims for travel

Confidence during high-stakes engagements

High-impact sessions call for a clear mindset and reliable access to schedules, documents, and quick updates. A solid digital setup keeps work executives and business professionals grounded. It allows to step into important discussions with fewer concerns about technical issues.

This reliability helps leaders stay focused throughout the day. They can pull up files, respond to urgent notes, and coordinate with staff spread across distant regions. This contributes to stronger performance during important engagements.

Efficient support for hybrid work models

Many companies rely on teams spread across several countries. Executives need uninterrupted access to shared platforms and staff messages to maintain steady progress during trips. A digital profile that adapts across borders supports this structure.

It helps leaders handle approvals, brief teams, and align schedules without delays. This supports strong teamwork across time zones and keeps leadership activities running smoothly. It also helps companies operate in a cohesive way despite distance. Having access to the best travel eSIM makes this possible by giving them immediate access without searching for local plans or swapping cards.

Poland’s fairy-tale castles, shimmering lakes, lush forests, and historic cities attract curious travelers and long-term adventurers from across the globe. Whether you’re wandering through Kraków’s vibrant Old Town, trekking in the Tatra Mountains, or building a new life in Warsaw, health insurance coverage in Poland becomes essential for peace of mind during your journey.

Exploring a foreign country can mean unfamiliar healthcare systems and unexpected medical expenses, so securing the right insurance allows you to travel confidently and enjoy every moment without worry.

Healthcare in Poland: What Travelers Should Know

Poland offers strong healthcare services through both public and private systems. Polish citizens and registered residents typically access care through the National Health Fund (NFZ). Travelers and expats who are not yet part of the system must have valid international or private health insurance to receive affordable care.

Public healthcare under the NFZ covers basic medical services but usually comes with longer waiting times. Private clinics offer faster service, and many have English-speaking staff, which is why they are popular with international travelers and expats. Major cities like Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdańsk, and Kraków have excellent private facilities suited to foreigners.

Do Tourists Need Health Insurance in Poland?

Yes. Travel health insurance is strongly recommended and often required, especially for visitors entering Poland from outside the EU or Schengen Area. Most travelers must show proof of at least €30,000 medical coverage. Insurance protects against unexpected medical costs, sudden illness, injury, emergency treatment, and evacuation. This applies whether you are exploring Poland’s historic towns, enjoying winter sports in Zakopane, or trekking through nature reserves like Białowieża Forest.

Key Things a Short-Term Visitor’s Policy Should Cover

• Emergency medical treatment
• Hospitalization and diagnostic care
• Medical evacuation and repatriation
• Trip delays, cancellations, and lost luggage
• Coverage for activities such as hiking or winter sports

Many modern insurers also offer optional carbon-offset or eco-travel benefits if you’re a sustainability-minded traveler.

Health Insurance for Expats Living in Poland

If you are moving to Poland for work, study, retirement, or long-term travel, you must have valid health insurance when applying for a residence permit. Employees are typically registered automatically with the NFZ by their employer. Freelancers, digital nomads, students, and retirees must secure private coverage until eligible for public insurance or choose international expat insurance.

Common expat coverage options include private Polish insurance, student plans, or global health insurance. These plans often include benefits such as multilingual support, dental treatment, annual check-ups, and direct billing to hospitals and clinics.

How to Choose the Right Insurance

When selecting a health insurance policy for Poland, consider the following:

• Emergency and hospital care coverage
• Ability to use private clinics
• Fast claim processing and multilingual support
• Direct billing options to avoid paying upfront
• Adventure activity coverage if you plan to hike, ski, or explore nature

Final Tips for Safe Travel in Poland

• Keep both digital and printed copies of your insurance policy
• Save emergency number 112 in your phone
• Carry some cash for clinics that may not accept foreign cards in remote areas
• Keep receipts for any claims
• Research clinics near your accommodation in advance

Poland offers beautiful landscapes, rich culture, and unforgettable travel experiences. From medieval towns and mountain trails to peaceful lakes and vibrant cities, there is so much to explore. With the right travel or expat health insurance, you can enjoy every moment knowing you’re protected. Travel smart, stay prepared, and immerse yourself fully in the wonders of Poland — safely and confidently.

Traveling alone for the first time can feel like stepping into another world. There’s excitement on every street corner, but also uncertainty in every unfamiliar face.

The global solo travel market, as of last year, is valued at around $482.5 billion. As more people continue to go on solo trips, this value is steadily increasing.

Now, exploring a new city solo means freedom; you decide where to go, what to eat, and how long to stay. Yet that independence also comes with the responsibility to stay safe, aware, and smart about your choices.

If you’re exploring an unknown city alone for the first time, here are a few things you should keep in mind. This solo traveler’s guide has the best tips, so read on.

FIRST TIME SOLO TRAVELER’S GUIDE

Know the City You’re Traveling to

Before your plane even touches down, spend some time studying the layout of the city. Look up which neighborhoods are considered safe, where major landmarks are, and what areas to avoid after dark. This preparation helps you move around confidently, reducing the chances of looking lost. Whether it is Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, Paris, Delhi, you need a little bit of reading, knowing and prepping.

Local blogs, digital maps, and recent travel reviews can give you valuable, up-to-date insights. You’ll also get a sense of how public transportation works and which routes are convenient for tourists.

Understanding a city’s rhythm before you arrive makes the entire trip smoother. It turns confusion into curiosity and fear into excitement.

Also, check for any travel advisories or restrictions your country has issued on the place you’re planning to visit. These advisories will alert you on whether or not you should actually visit the place and what to remember if you do. For instance, the US has set high levels against countries in South Asia. That means travelers from the US are asked to exercise various levels of caution when traveling to South Asian countries.

Blend in with the Locals

Standing out as a tourist can sometimes make you vulnerable. The way you dress, speak, or even handle your camera can reveal that you’re new in town. This is one the best tip for solo traveler’s guide.

Try to adapt your style to the local culture while keeping your identity intact. Observe how locals dress and interact, and make small adjustments to blend in naturally.

Avoid loudly discussing your plans or flashing expensive gadgets. If you look like someone who belongs there, people are less likely to take advantage of you. Besides, blending in doesn’t just keep you safe. It also opens up opportunities for authentic interactions with locals who might be more willing to share stories with someone who respects their culture.

Stay Vigilant When Using a Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service

One of the easiest ways to get around an unknown city is by using taxis or ride-hailing apps. In fact, globally, over a billion people use ride-hailing services. Uber, in particular, is super popular, alongside Grab in Asia. However, the convenience of using cabs or ride-hailing services requires caution.

Recent safety concerns surrounding Uber highlight the importance of remaining alert when using such services. Reports tied to the Uber sexual assault lawsuit have drawn attention to disturbing incidents where passengers were assaulted by drivers during rides. These cases have led to multiple Uber lawsuits, urging the company to improve passenger safety and security.

As TruLaw notes, many victims have sought justice with the help of an Uber sexual assault lawyer. This emphasizes the fact that even trusted ride-hailing platforms can fail to protect users.

While the majority of rides remain safe, this serves as a reminder that awareness is crucial. Always double-check driver details, use well-lit pickup locations, and keep a friend updated on your route.

Keep All Your Travel-Related Documents and Money Safe

Solo travelers must take extra care to secure important items. Carry only what you need for the day and leave the rest locked up in your hotel safe. Money belts, neck pouches, or hidden compartments can help you carry essentials discreetly.

When withdrawing cash, choose ATMs in well-lit, secure areas like inside banks or malls. Avoid counting money in public. Digital payments are becoming more accepted globally. As a matter of fact, this year, digital payments across the world will reach a total value of $20.09 trillion.

So setting up a mobile wallet can minimize the need to carry large amounts of cash. Remember that security isn’t about paranoia; it’s about being prepared for the unexpected.

Trust Your Instincts and Build Connections

Traveling alone doesn’t mean being lonely. Hostels, local tours, or community events often provide safe ways to meet people who share your interests. A conversation at a café might turn into a day trip or even a lifelong friendship.

At the same time, trust your gut when something doesn’t feel right. Whether it’s a pushy vendor, a stranger offering help, or a location that suddenly feels unsafe, your intuition is your best defense. Learning to listen to it helps you avoid risky situations and enjoy your adventure with more confidence.

There’s no thrill more exciting than exploring an unknown city, and that too all by yourself, right? Indeed. However, every adventure requires awareness and a sense of responsibility. Once you learn to trust yourself and stay alert, the world becomes a playground of cultures waiting to be explored.

While national parks protecting tigers are more fascinating for visitors, visiting a lion reserve has a different charm in itself. Visitors coming to India should certainly go on a safari to Gir National Park. The Gir National Park is the only abode for Asiatic lions and also has a massive variety of birds. It is the 8th biggest National Park in India with over 670 lions and 500+ leopards in an area of 1400+ square kilometres.

Safaris are the best way to spot the wildlife of Gir National Park. Dr. Salim Ali during one of his visits to Gir said that Gir could have been a bird sanctuary if not for lions! And it is so true.

If you’re planning a visit to Gir National Park, there are a few things you’ll need to make it comfortable and easy. This safari packing list will have you well prepared for one of the most incredible experiences of your life.

Camera

A good camera is the first item you should have on your safari packing list. There is so much to see in Gir National Park, that you will regret not to bring your camera along – it’s the most important component of your safari equipment. Yes, you can use your smartphone but a long-angle lens will be better. It is also a great alternative to binoculars so that you can see animals that are far away as if they are close up. A good camera allows you to take photos of the amazing animals and the unique wilderness.

A regular or mirror-less DSLR, semi-DSLR, point-and-shoot camera with good optical zoom is the best to carry in here. For big mammals such as lions and leopards commonly found in Gir National park a telephoto lens of 250-300 mm is ideal. However, if you wish to photography birds, I suggest you bring at least a 500mm lens for clear and crisp shots.

Gir is a heavily forested area with big trees of Sagwan. When driving through the roadways, you may not always be able to get as close to the animals as you’d like. A respectful distance is important, and vehicles can’t go off track, where they would damage important vegetation or disturb and threaten smaller creatures. Because of this, binoculars are an incredibly helpful addition to your Gir safari packing list.

Cap and face mask

Wondering what personal items to pack for a safari in India? This may seem like an obvious one, but you can never have too many reminders. Indian summers are harsh and with the open-top vehicle, you are directly bearing the sun. while winter sun is not harsh, the time of your safari will make all the difference. The afternoon safari will be hot whether it is winter or summer. So it only makes sense to carry a cap/hat/stole to cover your head. Use sunscreen lotion if you get easily tanned.

A face mask is compulsory due to covid-19 precautionary measures and even otherwise it is best to hide your face in a mask to avoid inhaling the dust from the vehicle ahead of you!

You can choose on wearing sunglasses but I will discourage you to do that as you may miss out on seeing a movement in the forest in those polaroid glasses.

Neutral coloured clothes

It is wildlife etiquette to wear neutrally coloured clothes in earth shades so as to blend with safari. Ideally shades of green, brown and grey are perfect for Gir safari packing list. Avoid wearing eye-popping colours such as yellow, red and blue.

Winter mornings in Gir are super chilly, and the wind from the open gypsy vehicles makes your bone chill. So don’t forget to carry a windcheater/jacket/pullover. Pack light, breathable long-sleeved tops, and comfortable long pants. These will also serve you well in the evenings when the weather cools down. Try to bring neutral coloured warm clothes for the safari.

So, pack your comfiest sneakers and a few breathable pairs of socks.
Final thoughts on Gir safari packing list

Any trip is exciting especially if it for a safari. It is important to list these things out so that you don’t miss out and enjoy the safari to the fullest!

Best time to visit Gir National Park

The most popular time to visit Gir is in winters in the months of December to March as the temperature is bearable and there are chances of sighting migratory birds. However, summers are better for sighting the big cats as they out often to drink water at the water holes.

The best safari to go on is in the morning when the lions are most active. They tend to sleep for the rest of the day.

How to reach Gir National Park

By Air

The nearest airport is in Rajkot which is 3 hours away. One can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Sasan Gir.

By rail

The nearest railway station is at Junagadh, and from here the park is about 50 minutes drive. Trains are available from Mumbai and Ahmedabad to Junagadh.

By road

One can drive in their own car or hire a private bus to Sasan Gir from Ahmedabad. This is the most convenient option and one can cover other nearby places such as Diu and Somnath.

Most of us know a thing or two about the benefits of planting trees. But how much do we really know about the sustainable benefits of planting trees and the crucial role they play in our everyday lives?

Could we name a few ecological, environmental, and even social benefits of planting trees? Beyond providing us with the oxygen we need to breathe, what else do trees create? How do trees affect you and me individually? And how can you help?

In today’s post, Chris from Click A Tree explains why trees are so important, and why we need to plant as many as possible. Luckily, it’s never been easier! All it takes is a few clicks on your screen, and Click A Tree takes care of the rest.

Here are some of the most important reasons why you should care about planting trees.

Ecological Benefits of Planting Trees

Vital Habitat for Endangered Animal Species

Everybody loves animals, and the truth is that many of them need trees for habitat. Whether they’re the biggest land-based mammals or the tiniest crustaceans in the sea, planting trees brings a lot of benefits to the wildlife that we know and love.

Unfortunately, many animals that depend on trees are currently endangered. Trees provide them with food, shelter, and nursing grounds for their young. When trees disappear, it becomes much more difficult for these animals to survive.

This is especially true for endemic species that are only found in one place on our planet. Where there are high levels of deforestation, these unique animals may never be seen again.

Wildlife plays a huge part in every national park we visit, and every birdwatching trip around the world. Let’s make sure that we plant enough trees for that wildlife to thrive.

A Healthier, Greener Environment for All of Us

Looking at the bigger picture, there are a lot of sustainable benefits of planting trees for our atmosphere as well. Trees are natural carbon sinks, meaning they store incredible amounts of carbon that has been released into our atmosphere.

That’s pretty cool, right? Now, remember that as well as storing carbon, trees provide us with oxygen too! But more on that later.

Trees are one of our most effective weapons in the battle against climate change. They reduce the impact of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere and help to combat the emissions we create.

Our planet is rapidly heating up, and we can help to control that by planting more trees.

Environmental Benefits of Planting Trees

Trees Protect Land

We’ll bet you didn’t know about this one! One of the lesser-known benefits of planting trees is that they help to hold the ground together. Literally. Trees – and their roots – keep our land and soil compact, fighting desertification in the process.

Mangrove trees, in particular, are excellent at replenishing our land and ensuring that it doesn’t dry out and turn to desert. We can’t grow many crops in the desert, can we?

On top of that, mangrove trees act as a natural barrier to big waves that can easily destroy coastlines during heavy storms. They help to prevent flooding and even replenish the soil with vitamins and minerals. And all of this while absorbing huge amounts of carbon!

We Can’t Get Enough of Breathing

I like breathing. You like breathing. Everybody likes breathing! And one of the most important benefits of planting trees is that they produce much of the oxygen we need to breathe every second, every minute, of every single day.

A world without trees doesn’t bear thinking about. When trees are impacted, then you and I are too. Let’s keep on planting trees and ensuring that, as well as storing carbon and battling global warming, they continue to produce the oxygen we depend on.

Better Soil and Cooler Air

We’ve already mentioned the role that trees play in protecting our land. But trees do more than just protect it – turns out they improve it as well.

Deep tree roots are constantly working the soil and filtering it. They bring buried nutrients and minerals to the surface so that other crops can benefit from them. Their decomposing leaves are also nutritious to plants surrounding them. Wherever there are trees, there’s healthy, nutritious soil.

In a similar way, trees are constantly filtering our air and purifying it for us. This one’s all to do with the water cycle: trees absorb rain and transpire vapour back into the atmosphere as required. They help to control the humidity of our atmosphere and naturally cool the air as well.

Social Benefits of Planting Trees

Planting Trees Creates Long-Term Work

All we’ve talked about so far is the planet! I mean, Mother Earth is kind of important, of course…but what about the people populating our planet?

One of the single biggest benefits of planting trees is that it creates a huge amount of work. At Click A Tree, we don’t just scatter seeds into the ground and hope for the best. Far from it.

Instead, we carefully select the tree species that we think will best represent a natural forest. We plant the seeds and wait for them to grow. Then, these young trees are cared for and looked after in our nurseries to ensure that they have the best possible chance of survival.

And even when they have been planted, we continue to prune and care for those trees in the wild. Doing this on a large scale requires a huge amount of work hours over a long period of time.

And It Helps Communities Thrive

In many of the developing countries where we plant trees, stable and dependable work is exactly what’s needed! Our tree-planting sites are often in communities where a steady wage is hard to find, and opportunities are limited.

As our workers grow a career (no pun intended) planting trees, they gather a fair wage and can afford simple necessities that they couldn’t justify before. Simple things like food, clothing, and even education. The benefits of planting trees are significant on a social and economic level.

We all know that more work means more tax. These communities can build an infrastructure and create a truly self-sustainable model. Planting trees even helps to support entrepreneurship schools, like this one in Ghana.

There are all kinds of benefits of planting trees. For the endangered animals around the world, for our planet, for you, and for me.

I hope this article gave you an overall perspective and the sustainable benefits of planting trees. Let’s plant as many trees as we can. Plant a tree today to help protect Mother Earth and provide a future for every single one of us.

People were travelling like there is no tomorrow until the COVID-19 pandemic put a temporary pause. With a smartphone in hand, everyone had become a travel influencer of a kind – sharing pictures on social media either for their followers or family. While some may say social media is to blame for the surge of travellers, I believe that social media can also bring in a lot of inspiration for the right kind of travel.

Role of Social Media in the rise of Travel Influencers

Instagram has played a huge role in the rise of travel bloggers and travel photographers who have huge followers on social media. Having the perfect Instagram picture has nowadays become so important that I sometimes feel if we have lost the essence in travel and doing it only for the likes and comments. If you follow a travel influencer who constantly posts pictures of their perfect vacations, chances are you’re scrolling through their page looking for inspiration and thinking, “How can I be there, right now?”

While some of the offbeat places are getting attention, posting everything on social media has led to ruining many destinations and disturbing the local population, so much so that the locals want to move away! Not to forget the injuries/deaths that have caused while getting the perfect selfie getting inspired by the favourite blogger!

It is probably also not the right decision to leave your job and become a digital nomad unless one is sure about it paying for the sustenance, just like what Mar Pages says.

It is best not to blindly follow the bloggers as they put in a lot of work before they write articles and get that perfect shot.

Reasons behind that one perfect shot for the gram/blog

Research

Travel bloggers put in a lot of research before they travel to a particular destination. Self-safety, as well as the safety of the gear they are carrying (which is sometimes a couple of thousand dollars worth), is kept in mind while planning the travel.

Partnership with local tourism/agency

Many a times, travel to offbeat places is arranged by a local tourism board or a local agency who knows the area well, know the roads well, how to safely reach an offbeat place and even the local language. Rural areas and offbeat places are thus best visited with a knowledgeable agent.

Prior permissions for Heritage sites/temples

Most travel bloggers get permission to heritage sites or temples where traditionally photography is prohibited. It is hence important to be ethical during travel.

We cannot ignore the fact that the pandemic still exists and may stay longer than anticipated. This is where the role of travel bloggers comes into picture wherein they can inspire their followers and family about sustainable travel, armchair travel and backyard travel. Thankfully, there are already travel influencers influencing during the pandemic. 2021 trends point towards more sustainable travel which includes

Slow travel

Air travel is accountable for about 2.5% of global carbon dioxide emissions, and using the railways or roadways is one way to travel long distances without releasing as many emissions. Slow travel also allows people to spend more time in places and really be able to enjoy their experiences. Thankfully a lot of travel companies are realising important issues such as climate change and offering packages for slow travel.

Remote working has also made a lot of difference in people choosing to travel slow, exploring more in more time.

Deep travel

Gone are the days when visitors only wanted to tick off popular places off the list. Now they want more meaningful experiences which is full of local culture and heritage. They want to enrol themselves into local cooking classes, or yoga or go on local food trails.

There is an increase in the number of people who want to experience local festivals and visit in peak winters or summers. A large number of people in 2021 would be looking for meaning experience with lasting memories.

Backyard tourism

A lot of people are already chucking visiting foreign destinations to explore their own country or even their own city. Backyard tourism in 2021 will reign over the rest with Staycations, nature trails, short drives and luxury travel near home.

There is also a growing movement against geotagging on social media to avoid ruining some pristine locations from overtourism.

So all in all 2021 looks like a sustainable travel year. How and where do you plan to explore next year keeping all the above points in mind? Let me know in the comments below.

An article on health advice for travelers in 2020 is very different from something that may have been written a year ago.

We are living in a time when there is much more to think about than packing sunscreen and first aid items. These things are important, of course, but we now have to worry about the Coronavirus too.

For some, travel might be off the cards for a while because of the perceived risks while away. For others, travel might still be a possibility, with the necessary precautions in place.

If you’re planning on traveling this year, then you really do need to keep COVID-19 in mind. You also need to consider other pieces of health advice for travelers in 2020 that will keep you fit and well on your travels.

In this article, I am going to cover various aspects of health advice in an attempt to cover all of your needs.

Research your destination

As a rule, you should always research your travel destinations because you need to find out about the health care facilities that are available to you and the vaccinations that you need to have before your travel. But with the Coronavirus in mind, you should also consider your personal safety. There will be some destinations where spikes in the virus have risen, and there will also be those places where crowds of people could be a danger to you.

Choose carefully then, and try to choose a destination that might not be overcrowded. Visit Worldometer and other sites to research Coronavirus cases and avoid those places where you may be put at risk. And talk to your travel company. They should be able to advise you on places that are considered off-limits for now, alongside vaccination advice, so heed the advice they give to you.

Pack your bags with the Coronavirus in mind

Yes, you will need your sunscreen and your first aid kit. You will need the details of local health centres too, and your personal medications. All of these things need to be added to your packing list. But where the coronavirus is concerned, there are a few extra items that need to be included with your travel luggage.

The following items are recommended.

Washable face masks that protect your nose and mouth

Plenty of hand sanitizers

Disposable gloves

A thermometer to regularly test your temperature

Avoid large groups, and maintain social distancing in public places at all times.

Avoid facilities that appear unhygienic.

Wash your hands often, especially when you use public transportation, public toilets and any areas of public interest.

Contact local health services should you start to feel unwell.

Isolate yourself if you show any virus-related symptoms.

Be careful with your food choices

Travelling is all about new experiences so you definitely should explore the culinary delights at the new location. However, you do need to take care of the following.

Firstly, try to avoid those places where you suspect hygiene might be an issue. This includes those marketplaces where food is left out in the open. Bacteria can be spread in food when climates are hot and when there is an abundance of flies spreading waste, so be mindful.

If you know you have an intolerance to certain food types, remember to read the packaging on food labels, and be careful when picking from food menus. If you have made the effort to learn the language of the country you are visiting, this should be no problem for you. You will also have the opportunity to ask the supermarket and restaurant staff for advice when choosing food products.

Being hydrated is extremely important as well. If you are concerned about the local tap water, don’t use it for drinking purposes. Use bottled or sterilized water instead, to be safe.

Food poisoning is an issue if you do eat or drink something dodgy, and I probably don’t need to tell you how unpleasant this can be. Do read what to do if you get food poisoning while away to be cautious. If you avoid eating or drinking anything that might be contaminated, you will protect yourself and have a good trip.

Be mindful of hot climates

If you love the sun, you might be tempted to visit places the beaches. If you are careful with a few things, your day to the beach will be fun-filled yet safe.

I have already mentioned sunscreen, and as you will know the importance of this for skincare, we won’t go into detail on it here. As long as you buy the right factor for your skin, and as long as you apply it regularly if outside in the sun, you should be okay. You should also stay in the shade as much as possible, especially during the hottest parts of the day. It’s advisable to wear sleeved items too, but be sure to wear something made from light materials so you don’t become overheated.

Many people neglect their eyes when in the sun, so this is something that deserves special mention here. It’s important to wear sunglasses, as too much direct sunlight can lead to cataracts and eye melanoma if your eyes are unprotected. However, not every pair of sunglasses is the same. Some are better than others for protection against the sun’s UV rays, so shop around and ask for advice. For some general info on the best glasses to wear, use this link to find it easily.

Hydration is obviously important in places where temperatures are hot. Make sure you carry with you sufficient drinking water or juice. Don’t substitute these drinks for anything alcoholic when you need to hydrate yourself. Alcohol dehydrates your body, so limit your intake when you’re out in the sun.

Exercise when you can

If you’re hiking regularly, then exercise won’t be a problem for you. And the same applies if you’re taking part in leisure activities or walking around local towns. But if love to laze on the beach for many hours, or take public transport to get to where you need to be, then you need to do much more to stay fit and healthy.

So, kick off any bad habits, and make some attempt to keep fit each day. Ride a bike instead of taking public transport. Break up your days on the beach with a swim or a walk. And try to fit some of these travel workouts into your itinerary to keep your body in shape. You will then feel healthier, and you will be less likely to suffer when you do decide to take a hike or any other type of strenuous activity.

And Finally

Long-term travel can be life-changing, but you won’t feel the benefits if you fall ill. So, consider each aspect of the advice given here, and commit to further research online to be safe while travelling.

Sustainable Travel Tips

The world is reeling under the pressure of over-tourism. A destination unheard of suddenly makes it to the ‘bucket list’ of a few thousands of travelers. Flights are born to fly those travelers there and social media bursts with travelers and influencers posting about it. Overtourism has increased so much, it was shortlisted as a Word of the Year in 2018. Maybe the pandemic was born to relax the overtourism? (but that is a debate for another day).

With more and more people getting hooked to travelling almost frequently, it is important to be aware of sustainable travel and how easy it is to practice. In this sustainable travel blog, I already cover sustainable travel tips at the end of every post which is specific to each place I have visited. In this post, I am summing travelling sustainably and how each one of us can be a sustainable traveler.

But for those who don’t know yet, let us address the big question.

What is Sustainable Travel or What is Sustainable Tourism?

Sustainable travel means finding a way that tourism can be maintained long-term without harming natural and cultural environments. Sustainable travel should minimise the negative impacts of tourism and ideally be beneficial to the area in which it takes place.

Let us go over some sustainable travel tips to become a responsible traveler.

Sustainable Transport

The mode of travel is probably the first thing one thinks of while planning a trip. Depending upon the destination and distance one decides to use the train, bus or flight.

Did you know the flight’s takeoffs and landings create most of an airplane’s carbon emissions?

That is why overland travel is the best option.

Overland travel or Overlanding

Historically, “Overlanding” is an Australian term to denote the droving of livestock over very long distances to open up new country or to take livestock to market far from grazing grounds. But in modern times it relates to traveling on land, covering a long distance, wherein the journey is more important than the destination.

Modes of Overland travel include

Railways: Railways are however the best ways to travel comfortably within a country. They are safe, affordable and give you a good chance to have fun on the run. You can also catch up on that much-needed sleep. This is by far the best way of sustainable travel.

Roadways: Overlanding is also thankfully becoming more popular using campervans or private cars and it is better for the environment than flights.

Public transport: Buses, metro, sky trains, trams, trains are the best means of public transport which are time-saving and extremely ethical to the place of travel. Also, let’s face it, it saves a ton of money and you can get from one place to another in a quarter of the cost if you ride a vehicle or hire a cab. Plus you can catch up some sleep, listen to music or read up a blog while commuting.

Walk/Bicycle: Even better for the environment is exploring the new area on foot or by bicycle. While many Europeans countries use bicycles as their everyday means of transport, as visitors we can at least do our bit to rent them.

Sustainable Travel Products/ Eco-products

As zero waste living is slowly picking up as a lifestyle choice, it is important to start off somewhere with small changes during travel. Here are some great options.

Reusable bottles

In developing counties, the water available at water ports is generally filtered and fit for drinking. In developed countries, tap water is the best choice. Gone are the days when you would have to buy a PET mineral water bottle while traveling. With an estimated 91 per cent of plastic going unrecycled, it’s better for the environment if travelers cut out the usage of plastic altogether.

You will find water filters almost at all tourism locations across Asia and it is highly recommended to carry your own bottle everywhere.

Refilling water is now considered cool and saves a lot of money and is environmentally safe. Sustainable Tourism in Luang Prabang is one such inspiring example of taking sustainability too seriously especially for tourist towns.

Ecofriendly Toiletries

Wooden toothbrushes, chewable toothpaste, bath bars, shampoo bars, organic detergents, wooden combs. The list is unending. There has been a revolution in terms of eco-friendly toiletries not just for the travel community but for regular usage. And if you haven’t taken the ride on this yet, it is high time to switch.

Since we are on the topic of sustainable toiletries, it is important to mention the use of water instead of tissue paper! I just had to say this. Worldwide, the equivalent of almost 27,000 trees is either flushed or dumped in landfills which can be attributable to toilet paper.

Menstrual cups

When the PMS has to strike it will strike. It doesn’t matter whether you’re chasing waterfalls in Laos or admiring the tulips in Netherlands or camping in Rishikesh. Menstrual cups are emerging as the most eco-friendly solution as against disposing of tampons or sanitary pads which may take years for decomposition.

No packaging shampoo and soap bars

Liquid shampoos and soaps are harmful to the environment as they need the plastic packaging to fill them. Post usage they are chucked in the trash cans and on to the landfill site. A few of them may get recycled but most end up rotting in the landfill for years or sometimes in the ocean bed.

Packaging shampoo in a glass or metal bottle doesn’t make sense to a recycling a glass bottle is an extremely energy-intensive process. However, there are a few companies which allow you to return your bottles for cleaning and refilling. This means you buy a product from them and can return your empty when purchasing a new one. You don’t actually refill the container yourself, the company takes it away, cleans it, and refills on the production line. But I feel that also puts a burden of cleaning it.

The best option for this is switching to shampoo bars and soap bars. They either come in paper packaging or jute packaging and do not harm the environment.

Another organic shampoo is using of Aritha, also known as soap nut from India. According to Ayurveda, the nut has benefits for healthy hair and scalp, and been used for centuries as an anti-hair loss shampoo. You can make soap nut shampoo, even at home.

Ecofriendly cutlery

As a kid when I used to travel, I remember my mom used to pack spillable food in stainless steel containers and others would be neatly wrapped in a newspaper. Over time, I noticed people shifting to styrofoam plates, use and throw containers, plastic cutlery, basically, something you throw and don’t need to wash or take care of after the eating business.

This has harmed the planet in more ways than one!

Ecofriendly cutlery is the way ahead. From wonderfully flavorful edible spoons to arboreal eating utensils, from compostable cutlery made with Corn Starch to affordable bamboo cutlery, there are many eco-friendly cutlery options to chose from – perfect as the sustainable travel tips. They are high on utility especially while camping or traveling to remote places.

I personally carry a stainless steel cutlery pouch as I do not believe in disposing of anything even if it ecofriendly with alternative options. My pouch has a fork, spoon, straw which can be used anywhere – especially for street food.

Sustainable Accommodation

People often forget the importance of choosing sustainable accommodation while traveling. While it is the choice of most people, my personal preference and recommendation are to go for a local homestay.

Homestays and AirBnBs

Homestays are a wonderful way to know the foreign land in a local way, staying with a local family. The interactions you will have with the family eating local food will carve a beautiful memory of your stay in a foreign locale. This helps a local family to earn some money and you save some!

Housesitting or Couchsurfing

If you plan to stay for an extended period of time in a place, housesitting or Couchsurfing is one the most practical and sustainable travel tips. Housesitting is what a volunteer does when someone asks them to live in their home while they are away on holiday or travelling. Housesitting could be caring for the house, for pets or for the plants of the host. While you may not know the host in this way, you are living in a home away from home!

Luxury and Sustainability

While homestays are a perfect option, sustainability is not limited and there are many luxurious properties which believe in responsible tourism. Properties like Amari Residences, Bangkok and Luang Say Residence, Luang Prabang have made sustainability a part of their regime and even attract tourists with their ethics.

Pack Light, Pack responsibly

Give a break to yourself from lugging around the heavy bags. Did you know the heavier the luggage, the more fuel needed in the flight? I know it may become difficult to do so while visiting a cold country and posing in the same clothes for photographs but one can always be creative to mix and match clothes to make it look different. Also, why not try local shampoo and soap rather than carrying it all the way?

I always thought it is not possible to carry for a trip in a backpack, but trust me it not as difficult.

It is also good to be informed about the ingredients of your favorite products. Avoid packing and using shampoo, toothpaste and face packs with microbeads. Try using biodegradable organic products and ensure you leave the place clean for future visitors.

Say no to souvenirs from nature

I hear so many people say they pick up something from nature instead of manmade souvenirs to keep the memory alive.

BUT.. You have got it all wrong!

Don’t collect stones, shells or sand. It may be a souvenir for you but when you gift it/share its photo with others you are indirectly implying them to collect when they go. Yes, believe it or not, it does leave a little impact.

Remember this tagline? – It’s only one straw, said 1 billion people.

Well collecting souvenirs from nature is something similar.

Instead, shop something local!

Volunteering as a way of travel

Volunteering is the best way to enjoy like a local and earn some money (or not). Not to forget the amazing experience you’ll have for the lifetime for helping a community get water tap or roof for their house or biodiversity restoration or teaching kids in remote areas with no school. I have volunteered at Triund with an NGO in Himachal Pradesh in India.

Give your electronics the much-required break

In the world when we are so obsessed with checking into every place we visit and snapchatting our journey and sharing what we ate on instagram, we are putting away our loved ones with whom we are traveling. If you’re traveling alone and need pictures for the blog/social media put them away till you are back home. Save energy by switching off the devices.

Turn off all electronic appliances when you leave your hotel room (except the refrigerator)

Hotels use huge amounts of electricity to make their property look beautiful. Let’s be responsible travelers and turn off the air conditioning, lights and fans on the way out of our room.

Choosing Eco trips, Wildlife trips, Nature camping

After the last few years, I have been consciously choosing my vacations to places which are close to nature. Being a wildlife enthusiast and nature lover, it acts as a major detox for me, which helps me unwind! Try it, you will love it too!

Thankfully, there are many such tours happening across the world, which helps you connect with nature.

If you love wildlife trips, remember

Do not feed wild animals!

This includes monkeys, cows, birds in urban areas (yes, we have them all in developing countries) yes, in the city. Feeding animals makes them habituated to the food (example: pigeon menace across the world) and they do not put efforts to find food for themselves which nature has designed them to do. Leaving food in the zoo, national park or any sanctuary is a strict no-no!

Sustainable Gadgets

Solar chargers and sustainable laundry bags are some of the most responsible way of traveling if you are a frequent traveler.

Solar chargers are available in all shapes and sizes, depending on the use and be installed on a campervan or carried in your bag. The Grouphug Designer Window Solar Charger has a bamboo frame which sticks using a suction cup and has a built-in rechargeable 3,400-mAh battery that absorbs power throughout the day and night. As a result, it lets you charge your iPhone up to two times and an Android phone 1.5 times.

There are laundry bags and portable machines which wash clothes vigorously and effectively without electricity. Simply fill it with your clothes, add detergent and water, then tap it with your foot or shake the bag. It’ll reduce carbon use and save you money on electricity and water.
