Headed to South Korea during spring and contemplating whether to include Jinhae Cherry Blossoms on your itinerary? While it is super crowded, without any second thoughts, go for the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival, because you are in for a Cherry Blossom paradise.
Time for a little story.. 2 decades back, when there was only Orkut for social media, and I was hunting for interesting images on Google for my desktop wallpaper, I came across the most beautiful image! A stream of water, a bridge and a canopy of bright, pink flowers covering the stream. I instantly fell in love with the beauty of the image and heard about cherry blossoms for the first time in my life.
Over time, I got obsessed with them. Their fleeting beauty just reminded me how fragile life is, but they still bloom every year, being unapologetically beautiful.
While ticking off Cherry Blossoms in Japan is on most tourists’ bucket lists, I wanted to see them in South Korea. So I chased Korea Cherry Blossoms for 12 days, and it was everything I had wished for and more.

JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOMS
For a few days every spring, Jinhae turns into a pink paradise. If you are as obsessed with cherry blossoms as me and have seen them in K-dramas, then Jinhae has to be on your list.
Yes, those many trees are real. Yes, they shed petals slowly. Yes, it is difficult to catch a falling cherry blossom petal.
But, the feeling, oh the feeling of being there and witnessing it, will make your heart flutter (#iykyk).
Why cherry blossom in Jinhae, you ask? Jinhae is home to over 350,000 Yoshino cherry trees – meaning they are literally all over the town – from the highway to the city, railway station, streets, streams and of course, food.

No wonder it is the most popular cherry blossom spot in Korea, and most Koreans travel here for a glance and a photoshoot!
All of this has, of course, made it into a crowd puller – locals as well as tourists throng Jinhae in spring. You may not find a crowdless spot for a photo, the food would be overpriced and some other issues, but I would still recommend that you go!
Try attending the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival to get the best experience of the cherry blossoms in Korea.

ALL ABOUT JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
The Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival, also known as Jinhae Gunhangje, is one of the world’s most beloved springtime celebrations. Set in the picturesque city of Jinhae and spanning 10 days from the end of March to April, this festival attracts millions of visitors annually, all eager to experience the breathtaking beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom.
Besides the main event (being all the cherry blossoms of course), there’s also military parades, cultural activities and performances, cute food stalls (cherry blossom ice cream anyone?!), and sometimes even fireworks!
History of Cherry Blossoms in Jinhae

Jinhae’s cherry blossoms aren’t just a seasonal spectacle—they’re steeped in rich history. The tradition dates back decades, when cherry trees were first planted to honour Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a revered naval hero in Korean history.
Over the years, the Jinhae administration has planted more trees to turn into the stunning, sprawling displays that now draw visitors from around the world each spring.
The way the entire festival is handled is amazing, too! The small city’s infrastructure, connectivity to Busan, food and public utilities are perfectly in place for the festival.
Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival 2025

If you are someone who plans a trip way in advance, this is a challenge! The forecast calendar for Cherry Blossoms in Korea is only released in mid-February. This means the bloom forecast is done a month in advance. This is the website to check for official dates.
However, big festivals cannot be planned at the last minute, just like our international plans. Come a few days too early, and all you’ll see are flower buds or super small cherry blossoms. Come too late, and they’ll all be gone!
Once the cherry blossoms reach their “full bloom” stage, the magic only lasts about a week, and even that can be shortened by unexpected rain or strong winds. Unpredictable and fleeting, yes—but that’s exactly what makes catching peak bloom feel so special when it happens.
So, rely on last year’s dates and you will find them in bloom. To provide some context, here are some past dates of the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival:
2025: March 28 – April 10
2024: March 23 – April 1
2023: March 25 – April 3
2020-2022: cancelled
2019: March 29 – April 7
2018: March 30 – April 8
Cherry blossoms reach peak bloom at different times of the month, depending on where in the country they are. Generally, the southern cities (Jeju Island, Busan, Jinhae) reach peak bloom earlier than areas in the north (Seoul, Incheon, Gyeongju, etc), so plan your trip accordingly if you’re visiting multiple cities.
JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL: PLACES TO VISIT
The festival is conducted throughout the entire city of Jinhae. Which means there are multiple places where a lot a happening. Here are the most happening and popular places to visit in Jinhae.
Gyeonghwa Station

Gyeonghwa Station is one of the most iconic spots to visit during the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival. Though train services here stopped in 2006, the station remains incredibly popular thanks to its breathtaking cherry blossom tunnel, where rows of blooming trees stretch along the old railway tracks, creating a magical scene.
While the train on display is no longer operational, it adds to the charm of the location. It is turned into an exhibitive display wherein you can get a mock ticket, and visitors can take pictures inside the train coach.
Being the popular spot, be prepared for large crowds, especially in the afternoon. When I visited around 3 PM on a weekday, the area was packed. For a quieter experience and better photo opportunities, aim to arrive early in the morning, ideally between 7 and 8 AM, before the crowds start rolling in after 10.

Yeojwacheon Stream

The whole reason I fell in love with Cherry Blossoms. And I got to see that same place live – I did get a bit emotional, to be honest.
In my entire 12 days of Cherry Blossom viewing across Korea, this was easily one of my favourite spots. The stream is beautifully lined with cherry trees on both sides, forming a delicate canopy of blossoms overhead. Along the way, there are charming installations – heart-shaped balloons, flower-adorned structures, and other creative displays—offering endless photo opportunities. It’s truly a must-see during the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival.
Like many scenic locations in Korea, this spot shot to fame after being featured in a K-drama. It appeared in MBC’s 2002 series Romance, where the main characters first met on a bridge crossing this very stream. So much so that they have put up a ‘propose spot’ on the bridge with the series name.
Keep in mind, the area tends to be most crowded near the entrance, but as you walk farther along the stream, it gradually opens up.

Anmingogae Hill
If you are coming on a day trip with guided tours, this place will not be covered in the itinerary. And the same happened with me. Since I was on my way to Busan from Gyeongju and stopped at Jinhae for an afternoon, it was not possible to cover this.
However, it is a beautiful 4-kilometre road covered entirely with cherry blossom trees on both sides. People can hike up this hill while enjoying various parks, benches and pavilions along the way.
PRACTICAL TIPS FOR PLANNING A TRIP TO JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival venue
The Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival is held in Jinhae, a district in Changwon City, in the South Gyeongsang Province of South Korea. It’s situated on the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula, near the city of Busan.
Guided Bus Tour to Jinhae
The easiest option to visit Jinhae is to book a guided tour from Busan. Guided tours offer pick-up and drop-off from a centralised location in Busan, have a guide who explains everything and offer transport within the festival areas. They know the timings, good points and photo-op places, so you will probably not miss out on anything.
Bus tours leave from both Busan and Seoul, and make scheduled stops at both the stream and train station (the two most popular places at the festival).

Public Transportation to Jinhae
If you are DIY types or travelling in a group but do not want to hire a charter car for the trip, then public transport is another great option – affordable and eco-friendly too!
From Seoul
Seoul is quite far from Jinhae, and I do not recommend you to do this. But for the sake of all info, you can book a train or a bus.
By Train (KTX):
Hop on the Korail KTX from Seoul Station to Changwon Station — the journey takes a little over 3 hours. From Changwon, it’s another 30 to 40 minutes by local bus or taxi to reach Jinhae. Be sure to book your KTX ticket in advance, as seats often fill up a few days ahead. Book your Seoul – Changwon KTX Train Ticket in advance!
By Bus:
Catch an express bus from Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal directly to the Jinhae Intercity Bus Terminal, which takes around 4 to 4.5 hours. From there, it’s a short taxi or local bus ride to the main festival spots like Yeojwacheon Stream and Gyeonghwa Station.
From Busan
Since Busan is the nearest major city to Jinhae, it’s a convenient starting point if you’re already exploring South Korea’s southern coast.
By Express Bus:
Head to Sasang (Seobu) Intercity Bus Terminal and catch a direct bus to Jinhae — the ride takes about an hour. From the Jinhae Intercity Bus Terminal, hop on a local bus or take a quick taxi ride to reach the festival areas. During the cherry blossom festival, buses run frequently (every 30 minutes) from Sasang straight to the festival sites.
By Train:
You can also take a Mugunghwa or ITX-Saemaeul train from Busan Station to Changwon Station, which takes roughly 40 minutes to an hour. From there, it’s another 30-minute ride by taxi or local bus to Jinhae.
✦ Book Train Tickets: Get your Korail pass (Great option if you plan to travel all over Korea) or Individual train tickets (Ideal if you’ll only be transiting between Seoul & Busan).

How to get around Jinhae
Since the main cherry blossom spots in Jinhae are fairly spread out, getting around on foot isn’t the most practical option. For instance, the two most popular locations — Yeojwacheon Stream and Gyeonghwa Station — are about 3 km apart, so unless you’re up for a long walk, you’ll need some form of transport to get between them. You can rely on local taxis to get you around.
If you’ve booked a guided tour, you won’t need to worry about local transit — the tour will handle all transportation within Jinhae for you.
FAQs ABOUT JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
When does the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival take place?
The festival takes place when the peak bloom is forecasted, which means between late March to early April, but exact dates vary slightly every year since it depends on the cherry blossom forecast.
With that being said, if you’re able to, I’d plan my visit to Jinhae towards the middle of the festival, which hopefully ensures more flowers are in bloom. I went on the 5th day of the festival, and blooms were at about 70-80% peak.
What is the best time of day to visit the festival?
Early mornings are your best bet. The festival remains crowded throughout the day until late evening to see the night lights. The cherry blossoms are illuminated in various colours along Yeojwacheon Stream, and this is a popular time to visit as well (understandably so).
Is there food at the Jinahe Cherry Blossom Festival?
Yes! Both Gyeonghwa Station and Yeojwacheon Stream are lined with local street food stalls and a wide variety of cherry blossom-themed treats to enjoy.
You’ll find Korean favourites like gimbap, tteokbokki, and fresh strawberries, along with seasonal delights such as cherry blossom ice cream, strawberry milk, tanghulu, cherry blossom waffles, and whimsical cotton candy—perfect for snacking as you soak in the festival atmosphere.

What to wear for Cherry Blossom photos?
Pastel shades like baby pink are the go for cherry blossom outfit inspo! Floral maxi dresses also look amazing. However, keep in mind it will be cold outside, so have your cardigan or jacket ready after the photos.
Is the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival touristy?
Yes, extremely! People flock from all over the country (and the world!) to admire the cherry blossoms in Jinhae.
Is a day trip to Jinhae possible?
Yes. From Busan and Gyeongju, Jinhae is close by, but from Seoul, it is a 5-hour drive one way. Since you would spend most of your day on transportation, it is best to visit it while covering Busan.
Can I visit the Yeojwacheon Stream and/or Gyeonghwa Station before or after the festival?
Yes! Both places are open all year round; however, they are popular because of the cherry blossom viewing.

Cost of attending the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival?
Entrance to the festival is free.
Is one day enough to attend the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival?
Yes, one day is enough if you are doing a one-day trip from Busan, Gyeongju or Seoul.
FINAL THOUGHTS ON JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL – IS IT WORTH VISITING?
After personally visiting and seeing all the festivities for myself, I say a resounding yes! It is everything a festival should have – fun, frolic, food, photo-ops, all under the beautiful cherry blossoms! Words and even photos cannot do justice to what you see and experience there.
However, the festival comes with its challenges, such as crowds and the unpredictability of full blooms due to erratic weather. I got super, super lucky that I got to experience them in full bloom in all the cities I went to – Jinhae, Gyeongju, Busan, and then Seoul.
SUSTAINABLE TIPS FOR JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOMS
- Carry your refillable water bottle. Avoid purchasing PET water bottles unless necessary.
- Do not trash areas around the festival, parks or water streams. Use designated areas and the right bins for disposing of waste.
- Be mindful of all the signs and follow them respectfully.
- Don’t touch or shake the trees, sit on their roots, or damage the flowers,
- Don’t be loud or disruptive since these are across the city and near residential areas. It may be a holiday for you, but a daily life for the residents.
